About WatchIntel

We built WatchIntel because buying a watch is complicated by brand mythology, marketing language, and a lack of honest buyer intelligence.

What WatchIntel is

WatchIntel is an independent editorial database that scores watches across eight buyer-relevant dimensions: movement quality, finishing and build, value for money, originality, serviceability, brand integrity, resale liquidity, and hype tax.

Every entry is researched and written editorially. We do not copy manufacturer descriptions. We do not accept payment for coverage or positive scores.

Our hype tax score is the metric we're most proud of. It measures how much of a watch's price is explained by brand marketing rather than horological substance — and applies a penalty to the overall score accordingly.

What WatchIntel is not

A marketplace. We don't sell watches.
An auction platform or dealer.
A price guide or investment service.
A watch authentication service.
Affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any watch brand.

How we score

Scores are editorial estimates based on available public information, verified specifications, and independent analysis. They are not authentication certificates and should not be used as investment advice.
